A pathfinder design and consultation process for “natural” play spaces for
8 -13 year olds located on a housing estate in a conservation area.  An extensive consultation process with the young people included den making and close looking at the existing natural environment, and with the adults an exploration of how they played as children.  This process established a design that is in keeping with the iconic architectural language of the estate but delivers a range of play opportunities.

The scheme comprises of a “cat walk” hang out paved strip on the sunny side of the open space that leads to an ornate drinking fountain, an edible blackberry maze and a climbing tree.

The schemes were completed in May 2010.
