Framework Plan
Client Montag Stiftungen, City of Cologne
2008
As masterplanners in North Cologne we organised new community buildings that included a school, library youth facilities and workshops around an existing park in such a way to enhance the park through links with these amenities.
Moves included the introduction of a dining deck, a library garden (a link public space which had a slightly different management regime) but also the re-alignment of existing buildings to create shared planted boundaries to increase informal surveillance and guardianship. This was a public park for all ages but there was an emphasis on the exploration of a learning environment beyond the classroom with provision for children integrated into the topography of the landscape itself.
How we consulted
A day-long event provided opportunity for pupils and residents alike to have a first experience of the School of Give and Take, based around performances of each school. A photo studio was set up where photos of pupils were assembled into a family picture. Custom-designed stage elements were given to each school after the event.
