Public Realm Strategy
Budget £2.5m
2010
muf and J&L Gibbons LLP are commissioned by the London Development Agency, London Borough of Hackney and London Borough of Tower Hamlets to deliver a strategic public realm improvement plan for HWFI. The plan is founded on three strategic themes, Green – Infrastructure, Ways (With) In, and Olympic Face / Local Amenity. The plan identifies 21 projects that build on the existing assets and character to create a public realm that is both legible and has improved connectivity between HWFI, the Olympic Park and the communities north of the A12, and which sustains the cultural, business and community sector during this period of significant change.
The plan comprises a number of documents that together are the means by which the value of the existing is the foundation upon which future improvements are built.
The streetscape design code for the area, the ‘ Exception is the Norm: Hackney Wick & Fish Island Design Guidance’ designates a material palette and generic details that determine a relationship between the residential and industrial character of the area.
