Seven kings

muf architecture/art with Martin Stockley Associates were commissioned by the London Borough of Redbridge and Design for London to undertake a review of the current proposal for junction improvements immediately outside Seven Kings regional railway station and to propose further public realm improvements. These include the creation of a station forecourt as stipulated by other urban design initiatives for the wider area, most notably, Improving the High Road Urban Design Study, and the Crossrail Corridor Area Action Plan.

The proposed scheme aims to

- create a much-desired focal point at the centre of Seven Kings through the formation of a high quality, well-designed public space at the entrance of the station.

- promote the station’s role as an important public transport hub and interchange, maximising the benefits of Crossrail.

- improve the accessibility of the station and its wider environment in preparation for future growth.

The scheme is part of the Mayor’s Great Spaces Initiative and will be implemented subsequent to improvements to be carried out this year. These will remove the existing roundabout, signalise the junction, and provide advanced stop lines for cyclists and improved cycleways.

This report summarised the study, detailing the proposed scheme improvements and associated costs.
