The Barking Code is the means to knit together the ongoing development schemes for Barking Town Centre that are implemented on different timetables and from different funding sources with a simple palette of materials and treatments.
The Code sets out rules for the streetscape design and is both a menu and a primer: menu because it details the elements that are authorised for use and primer because it encompasses a set of principles to be followed when implementing new streetscape and public realm.
Simultaneously muf were commissioned to produce detail design packages for a number of sections of the town centre public realm, the construction of these put the code into immediate effect.
